Aging, gravity, and sun exposure can all take a toll on a patient’s facial features. However, there is no area of the face more susceptible to the effects of these elements than the eyes. This is because the skin and tissue around the eyes is particularly delicate and sensitive. As such, the eyes are likely to show premature signs of aging that can give a patient the appearance of being tired, stressed, or simply advanced in age. Because Dr. Kimberly Henry recognizes the eyes as a problem area for her San Francisco patients, she offers a number of eye treatments at her plastic surgery practice in order to refresh and revitalize the appearance of the eyes. Depending on the specific needs of each patient, Dr. Henry is likely to recommend any combination of the following eye treatments:
- Laser skin resurfacing: While laser skin resurfacing is a full-face treatment, its benefits can have a significant impact on the appearance of the skin around the eyes. Dr. Henry uses laser skin resurfacing treatment to revitalize the skin. A laser is used to remove the superficial layers of the skin and leave behind a layer of skin that is supple and refreshed. Laser skin resurfacing can even skin tone, decrease the appearance of age spots, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. For minimal signs of aging around the eyes and face, laser skin resurfacing may be sufficient. However, for more advanced concerns with the appearance of the eyes, laser skin resurfacing can complement and enhance the results of an additional eye treatment.
- Cosmetic Injections: For patients who wish to avoid plastic surgery, there are a number of cosmetic injections that can address fine lines and wrinkles around the eye area. Two of the most popular injectables used by Dr. Henry are BOTOX® Cosmetic and Restylane®. While they work in different ways, both serve to smooth the skin and decrease the signs of creases and wrinkles.
- Forehead lift: As the name implies, much of the alterations made during a forehead lift serve to smooth and tighten the skin on the forehead. However, a forehead lift is also effective in treating the brow and upper eyelid area. A forehead lift can lift sagging brows and heavy upper eyelids to give patients a more awake and refreshed appearance around the eyes. Additionally, forehead lift surgery can smooth out frown lines that often appear between the brows. Overall, the results of forehead lift surgery can have a significant impact on the appearance of a patient’s eyes.
- Eyelid lift: Eyelid surgery provides targeted results that are concentrated to the eye area. Dr. Henry can make alterations to the upper and/or lower eyelid in order to remove excess fat and skin and lift and tighten the skin around the eyes. Eyelid lift surgery can remove bags, create an attractive eyelid crease, and smooth lines and wrinkles around the eyes. All this serves to give patients a more relaxed and youthful appearance.
