At the practice of Kimberly Henry, MD, we see an increase in patients during the winter months. Why? It’s because men and women are sticking with their new year’s resolutions and trying to get their bodies back into shape. After the holidays, our patients hit the gym to get into the best shape that they can. Then, they schedule a personal consultation with San Francisco plastic surgeon Kimberly Henry so she can examine the body, listen to patient concerns, and formulate an effective treatment plan. Let’s review some of the most popular plastic surgery treatments that are performed before spring and summer.
Liposuction
If you are dreading bikini season because you have been unable to diminish the stubborn pockets of fat that affect common problems areas, such as:
- Thighs
- Buttocks
- Stomach
- Calves
- Arms
- Flanks
- Under the chin
Patients often find that even after targeting their problem area with strength training and toning exercises, they do not see the results that they want. These patients may want to consider the benefits of liposuction surgery. During liposuction, we focus on one or two areas of the body that have excess fat cells. Dr. Henry uses a tiny cannula, or suctioning device, to vacuum fat out of the body and slim down the affected area. Liposuction is the only safe and effective treatment that permanently removes fat cells from the body, and patients notice significantly improved results within two weeks of surgery, when most of the swelling goes down.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is another cosmetic surgery procedure that is commonly performed in the winter. Undergoing breast augmentation during this time of year assures that your breasts will have dropped and softened by the time warmer weather arrives. During treatment, Dr. Henry will place saline or silicone implants into the breasts through a small incision that is made around the nipple, in the armpit, or in the fold of the breasts. The incisions are discreetly placed so that the resulting scar is mostly unnoticeable, especially when the patient is wearing a bathing suit. Dr. Henry also makes every effort to produce natural looking results in our San Francisco breast augmentation patients. In thin women with little natural breast tissue, this can be achieved by placing silicone implants beneath the chest muscle.
Tummy Tuck
While excess fat can be frustrating for men and women, loose skin can be absolutely maddening. No amount of exercise and diet will tighten loose skin. The only effective skin tightening treatments are laser skin tightening, which works on mild to moderate skin laxity; and skin tightening surgery (such as tummy tuck), which works on patients with severe skin laxity. Dr. Henry often performs tummy tuck on patients that have loose, wrinkled skin on their stomachs. Many of our tummy tuck patients are mothers that experienced significant stretching of the stomach during pregnancy, or people that gained and then lost a massive amount of weight.
