The local news recently did a story about the first massage parlor in the Western Hemisphere that offers a facial slap for wrinkle reduction. For those of us who want to shell out hundreds of dollars for a face slap, you’ll at the very least have a good story to share. For the rest of us, there are more tried and true options to reducing wrinkles such as face creams, staying out of the sun and plastic surgery.
One method of reducing wrinkles through plastic surgery is dermabrasion. More simply put, dermabrasion is known as “facial sanding”, which smooths wrinkles on the face through a small tool with a rough edge. Other benefits of dermabrasion besides wrinkle reduction are reducing the appearance of acne or scarring. Dermabrasion is usually done as an outpatient procedure and the primary recovery time takes about five to seven days, though pinkness may last up to 12 weeks.
Another plastic surgery procedure that’s proven to reduce wrinkles in the face is a facelift. This procedure calls for a small incision made above the hairline (where it won’t be visible). Dr. Henry essentially tightens the skin and repositions the facial muscles so the face will look tighter and more youthful. Patients will usually return to work about 10 days after the procedure, though full healing may take a few weeks.
